Brand Beautiful consultancy was formed in 2005 to combine the best of storytelling and strategic expertise from the journalism and business worlds.

Over the last 15 years, as a journalist, copywriter and marketing consultant I’ve written tens of thousands of words to help other people, businesses, and organisations better express themselves. Often with notable success, including articles in The Times, The Observer, The Independent, Wired, The Ecologist, Brand Strategy, and The Idler; brochures and white papers for Microsoft, British Telecom, Hewlett Packard, Canon, and Arup; adverts for J Walter Thompson, to name but few.
Yet, the real gems, the words that sang, that resonated the most, were not my own but the words that came out of the mouths of my interviewee or client. Of course, it was me who created the questions that provoked those words, it was me, who crafted them into coherent sentences, but I was not their author, or the source of their inspiration.
Through my work as a teacher of meditation and personal development, spanning the same time-frame, in which I’ve helped others overcome their personal fears and doubts, while facing plenty of my own, I’ve come to realise the origin of this inspiration, is the voice of the heart. It gets shut down, or shut out, by the incessant chatter of the mind, or the idea that you have to be something other than who you are, to make it, but it is always there, patiently waiting to be heard. It is this voice which makes us unique. In business it is this voice which is the ultimate point of differentiation.
I created the Visionary Brilliance program to support business owners in realising just how more powerful their business communications can be when they speak from the heart. Just how easy it is to share that inspiration with others.
You might call Brand Beautiful’s idea of refreshingly honest marketing, the ’slow food’ approach to business. You have to slow down first to really hear what it is your heart is guiding you to do. This stillness is something I’ve found with my wife, two daughters, dog and three cats, at our home between the Atlantic Ocean and Pyrenees Mountains.
Glossary of terms
Brand.
In marketing the use of the word brand was inspired by the mark created by a red hot stamp which ranchers used to identify their cattle. Today, most people understand it similarly to refer to a companies ‘mark’: their logo, strapline, reputation, or philosophy. Or, a composite experience of all four. At its most sophisticated, ‘brand’ refers to a collection of perceptions about a product or service in the mind of the consumer. At BrandBeautiful we go one step further. To us, a brand is a business’s identity born from and continually nourished by the heart felt values and enthusiasm of a company’s director and employees, and, the reciprocal good will of their customers.
Beautiful
The dictionary definition of beautiful is aesthetically pleasing to the mind or senses. At Brand Beautiful we take the second dictionary definition of beautiful: excellent. Which in turn means outstanding, or from its Latin root excellere; to stand out from. To be distinctive in other words. This is our goal for your company.
Visionary
The dictionary definition of visionary is thinking about the future with imagination or wisdom. We’re happy with that definition; especially the wisdom bit. This is something we believe you innately have.
Brilliance
Our definition of brilliance comes from ‘brilliant’ an adjective which means very bright or vivid, or, able to produce strong, clear images in the mind. This is our goal for you as a communicator.
True Self
The dictionary definition of ‘self’ is a ‘persons essential being which distinguishes them from others’. So, by True Self, we mean the part (or whole) of your essential being which is true, or, by implication, innately good. This definition embraces, but is not limited to, all similar beliefs of a True Self or Soul, from world spiritual, religious and philosophical traditions.
